Prepare for and recover from your pelvis’s greatest undertaking.
I have spent hundreds of hours following my doctorate education to specialize in treating the pelvic floor with a holistic approach.
In the state of Pennsylvania, physical therapists with Direct Access (me!) can see you for 30 days after your initial evaluation without a physician’s referral. However, to continue physical therapy treatment you are required to have a script from a doctor, physician’s assistant, nurse practitioner, or certified nurse midwife. Referrals from lay midwives or chiropractors do not satisfy the state’s requirement.
No referral is required for wellness or personal training services. We can discuss this further if this applies to you.
This depends a lot on each person! Factors depend on how severe/how long you’ve been struggling with what you’re coming to PT for, if you are able to participate in the self-care activities prescribed to you, your stress level, and other personal factors that influence healing including genetics, diet, comorbidities.
Because we’re not dependent on how many visits insurance allows us, if your goals are high I promise to stick with you to get you there.
There’s no gimmicky “you have to sign up for this # of visits” as part of a package. Each individual body heals and sees progress at different rates. My promise to you is that you are the key decision maker in your treatment. I will always make my professional recommendations on number of visits and type of treatment depending on how quickly you are progressing, but you decide!
That being said, a typical treatment plan involves 1 session per week for 3-8 weeks, then transitioning to sessions every other week or once a month as needed to meet your goals. Factors effecting how frequently you have visits depends on how much hands-on treatment you need (release work) vs specialized exercises, that once learned and integrated into your body’s movement, you can perform on your own.
Initial evaluations are longer (2-3 hours) so that we can do a thorough evaluation and have time for treatment. We will review your health history in detail and perform a physical exam and movement analysis.
Depending on your needs and your comfort level, this may include a vaginal exam to assess pelvic floor muscle/tissue health.
You will receive education about your condition and self-care activities for you to begin to make progress on your condition before your next session.
If your deductible hasn’t been met (and you don’t think you’ll meet it for the year), paying an out of pocket price will be less expensive than paying the amount billed in a standard outpatient clinic. Most visits in a standard clinic would range from $200 to $500 for a 1 hour session, where you may or may not be seen 1-on-1.
My cost transparency guarantees you won’t be hit with a late bill on top of whatever your copay was.
Additionally, insurance companies can dictate how many visits you are allowed to have, and whether you are able receive any preventative care. Birth preparation services are typically not covered by insurance, however all birthing mothers can benefit from birth prep. By avoiding insurance, you and I together decide how much care you need.
Formation Wellness brings you a level of specialty, care, and length of sessions, that means you will likely require fewer sessions (less co-pays, less out of pocket expense) than a standard clinic. I will equip you with the tools you need to minimize the number of visits you need and speed your healing.
I treat men for orthopedic conditions (e.g. neck, back, shoulder, hip, knee, foot pain) – and have treated spouses (baby carrying is hard on men too!).
While I can do coaching for incontinence (common after prostate surgery), I do not do manual treatment on male pelvic floors. I know of several local pelvic floor PTs that do treat men, so reach out if you need some recommendations!
